Im Marienkoog geboren absolvierte er die Ausbildung zum Schulmeister und kam nach Keitum auf Sylt, wo er auch eine Familie gründete. Dort befreundete er sich mit dem weithin bekannten Sylter Schriftsteller Christian Peter Hansen, der die Heimatkunde Nordfrieslands mit zahlreichen Schriften bereichert hat und seinen jungen Kollegen entscheidend zur Beschäftigung mit der Region und ihrer historischen Entwicklung anregte. Zeit seines Lebens sammelte Christian Jensen Erkenntnisse und Materialien insbesondere zu Nordfriesland und veröffentlichte auf dieser Grundlage zahlreiche Artikel und Schriften. Sein umfassendstes Werk bildete das 1891 in erster Auflage erschienene Werk "Die nordfriesischen Inseln Sylt, Föhr, Amrum und die Halligen vormals und jetzt." Durch Vermittlung von Dr. Frederik Paulsen, Alkersum, kam sein Nachlass in das Nordfriisk Instituut. Der Bestand wurde gemäß der Bibliotheksgliederung geordnet. Fast die Hälfte der über 3 000 Einzelstücke finden sich in der Abteilung R und befassen sich mit Einzelpersonen oder Familien. Darunter befinden sich einige spezielle Materialien zu C. P. Hansen. Einen weiteren Schwerpunkt bilden die Geschichte einzelner Ortschaften oder Inseln. wobei wiederum Sylt einen besonderen Rang einnimmt. Zu berücksichtigen ist dabei, dass die heimatkundlichen Texte den Kenntnisstand im ersten Drittel des 20. Jahrhunderts widerspiegeln.
